Our Jane
This site is dedicated to Jane Evans.
This page forms a personal testimonial given by her younger sister.
I've known Jane all my life. My big sister, Jane, was one of the most generous people I have ever met. 5ft 10, slim, with sparkling green eyes, thick, curly brown hair, freckles and a ready laugh. However, not only was Jane beautiful, in adversity my sister was always there for me and anyone else who needed her support.
If Jane had a motto it was to do everything to the best of her ability. In her personal life she was therefore the best wife, the best mother, the best daughter, the best sister the best auntie, the best niece and the best friend that she could possibly be. In her professional career in the police force, Jane was diligent and respected by colleagues. We all miss her so.
One of Jane's gifts was the ability to bring people together; her home was your home. Possessed with a phenomenal energy, which could take the form of a whirlwind when the task demanded it, she was full of fun and always ready for a chat, a word of advice, or simply someone who would listen to you. If I could be sure of nothing else, I could be sure that Jane was on my side.
Jane tackled the illness that she suffered in the same way a determined woman might eradicate unwanted dust or clutter from her home - with a will. She was just not going to let it dictate her life and overshadow her home or family and it never did. The role Woodlands played was crucial.
To be honest, the word "hospice" frightened her at first but her initial fears were soon replaced by a feeling of belonging. The feeling of safety she felt is impossible to convey; you have to see it to understand it. She looked forward to her weekly visits and was reinvigorated each time.
For all of her inner strength and the unconditional love and support from all her family and friends, Jane's life would have been diminished without the dedication of all of those who supported her at the Hospice.
Jane was only 48 when we lost her. I love her as much today as I ever did.
Thank you, Woodlands Hospice, so very much for all you gave to Jane and may you support and care for all the Janes who will need you in the future.
With Love
