Light up a Life 2009

Christmas is a time for thinking about special people in our lives or remembering our loved ones. Why not give thanks for the special people in your life, living or deceased, by dedicating a light on our Christmas Trees to them? Your light(s) can then shine out in the darkness, a symbol of your love for them.

If you dedicate a light or lights through our Light up a Life celebration you are not only remembering someone you love but also helping us by giving a donation to the Hospice. Your support will help us to continue to deliver specialist palliative care to those suffering from a life threatening illness within your community.

In this, or special year when or new inpatient unit has opened, we hope that more people will come on board to support our annual 'Light up a Life' initiative as we will need more lights to light up our Christmas Trees. The financial pressures on the Hospice to raise even more money are now greater than ever to ensure the future stability of the Hospice. With the development of the new inpatient unit our costs have obviously increased and we now have to raise £2,500 every day through fundraising, shops and lottery just to keep Woodlands Hospice up and running.

Any one of us might need hospice care one day. Sadly, one in three of us will be affected by cancer during our lifetime. That one in three could be a mother, father, child, friend or colleague. They will have been at the heart of a family , a business or a community. Hospice care is provided free of charge to all patients and their carers and families but the costs of providing and maintaining such a service are high.

There are increasing demands on our service by way of new patient referrals. We need to secure more donations to cover the costs of these increased demands and we hope that people will choose this very popular initiative to show they care.

The Light up a Life celebration will shine out from our Christmas Trees during the month of December. The name of your loved one will also be remembered in the 'Book of Life' which can be viewed at the Hospice in the New Year. You will also receive a special acknowledgement card with the name/s of the person/s you have dedicated a light to.

Please note: Our main Hospice 'Light up a Life' service will again take place at St. Theresa's Church, Norris Green, on Sunday 6th December 2009.
