Make a Will Month

'Make a Will Month’ – April 2012

Our annual ‘Make a Will’ scheme runs throughout the month of April in partnership with local solicitors and professional will writers who will waive their usual fee for writing a ‘standard’ will in return for the person making a donation to the hospice. However, some practices have extended their support to the end of May and one has agreed to work with us throughout the year!

Please contact Tracy Barnes on 0151 529 2630 for details of solicitors in your area.

Since the introduction of the scheme in 2006 a wonderful £55,725 has been received in donations with in excess of £11,500 from the 2011 scheme. We would like to thank all those who have used the will scheme along with Peace of Mind Wills, Kennan Benjamin Kay, Rex Makin, Bartlett & Son, Black Norman, The Willwriting Guild, J. A. Simon & Co. and Tower Law for giving their time free of charge. If you have not yet made a will and would like to take advantage of the scheme please contact the fundraising department (see contact details on our Contact Us section).

No one likes to think of making a Will and surprisingly only 3 in 10 people actually do so. The absence of formal arrangements however can cause a lot of distress to family members at a time when they are already very upset.

Woodlands Hospice held the annual ‘Make a Will Month’ throughout April in partnership with local solicitors and professional will writers to encourage those people who haven’t yet made a Will to do so.

Our research shows that of those who have made a will few rarely revisit it once it has been written and with the increase in property values we recognise that many estates are now vulnerable to inheritance tax.

Solicitors participating in the scheme will help people a will waiving their usual standard fee in return for the person making a donation to the Hospice via the solicitor at the time of making the Will.

We are very grateful to the solicitors and will writers who have agreed to participate in the scheme this year and who are giving their time free of charge.

People will be able to make appointments either at the hospice, at solicitors in Liverpool City Centre, Old Swan, Bootle or Crosby or in their own home to have their will prepared.

A properly organised Will ensures that your assets go to the people you love or to your preferred charity rather than to the State, often through Inheritance Tax. If you choose to make a donation to Woodlands Hospice or indeed any other UK registered charity in your will, that donation will be free from Inheritance Tax.

If you have already prepared your Will but wish Woodlands Hospice to benefit in some way this can easily be added to your initial arrangements.

If you would like further details of ‘Make a Will Month’ or would like to get the contact details of participating solicitors please contact the Fundraising Department at the hospice on 0151 529 2630/2631.
