Community Outreach Service

In addition to the Day Therapy Services, a Community Outreach Team provides Complimentary Therapies, individual Stress Management and Occupational Therapy, either at home or at the Hospice. This service is available to both patients who may be unable to travel to the hospice and to their relatives and carers.

Out-Patients

Our out-patient facility, which opened in January 2004, provides a number of services for patients; these services currently include, Lymphoedema management, Complementary Therapies, and Counselling, and it is hoped that the range of services will be developed even further over the coming months.

Carer Support

Relatives and carers of patients known to the hospice are supported practically and emotionally both individually or within a group. Individual therapies such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology, and Stress Management are available through the Community Outreach Team either at home or at the hospice.

The Carers Support Group is held weekly on Wednesday afternoons and provides an informal meeting place to gain support and advice, and to allow carers to meet others in a similar situation. The group also offers an opportunity to obtain information and education through discussion and talks.

Bereavement Support

Bereaved relatives and carers are offered the opportunity to visit the hospice following their bereavement to talk with a member of the Clinical Team.

The Bereavement Support Group is held monthly on the first Wednesday in the month and provides an opportunity for families to meet others perhaps going through a similar experience.

Details are available from the Clinical Team Tel: 0151 529 2360.

Education

Woodlands Hospice provides an educational resource on all aspects of Palliative Care. Health professionals and student health professionals regularly attend the hospice on Clinical Placements. Details are available from the Clinical Team.
