Keep Moving Exercise Group

The Keep Moving Group is an exercise group run at Woodlands Hospice Wellbeing and Support Centre. Groups are held twice a week.

Who can attend?

The groups are open to anyone accessing services at Woodlands. Before starting the group you will be asked to attend for an assessment with one of the physi­ot­he­rap­ists. Your physiotherapist will be able to help you decide if the Keep Moving Group will be of benefit to you.

You may like to do some exercises, but feel attending a group every week is not for you. If this is the case you will be offered a one to one appointment, either at Woodlands Hospice or in your own home.

What is the Keep Moving group for?

The purpose of the Keep Moving Group is to improve or maintain posture, muscle strength, joint mobility and balance through manageable exercises. Exercising can also contribute to an improved sense of emotional and physical well being. This may help you to continue to carry out activities that are important to you.

What can I expect from the group?

When you arrive, you will be asked how you have been over the previous week to determine if you are well enough to exercise. Please tell the physiotherapy team if you have any concerns.

Each group starts with a warm up, including breathing exercises. This is followed by individual circuit exercises.

The physiotherapy team will plan a circuit with you that may include t’ai chi exercises; exercises in sitting or standing; exercises with or without weights; our exercise bicycles and our wii fit.

The group ends with a cool down and a drink in the Green Cafe.

Who runs the Group?

Each group will be led by two members of the Woodlands Hospice physiotherapy team, and is supported by a Woodlands volunteer.

What should I wear?

Please wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. It is also advisable to wear supportive footwear such as trainers or sensible shoes.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive five to ten minutes prior to the Keep Moving Group starting to enable registration and to give you time to share any concerns with the physiotherapy team.

How often can I come?

The excercise group currently runs once a week on a Tuesday 1:30 - 3:00pm.

What if I have other questions?

You will be able to ask questions before you start attending the group at your physiotherapy assessment. Your physiotherapist will give you our contact details so you can call us if you have questions about attending. There will also be time before, during and after each session for questions.
