Light up a Life Appeal 2016

Here at Woodlands Hospice we appreciate that Christmas can be a very difficult time of year if you have lost a loved one, or if you cannot be with someone you love, so we invited you to dedicate a light on our Hospice Christmas trees to celebrate your loved one.

Our beautiful Christmas tree adorned with hundreds of shining lights, each dedicated to a special person, were at the Hospice and at St Andrew’s Church in Maghull throughout the festive season.

By dedicating a light to your loved ones, you not only celebrated their life, but also helped us to support our patients and their families at a time they need it most

Your dedication was carefully recorded in the Book of Life., which you will be able to view at the Hospice or on this website throughout 2017.

For each light you dedicated you  received a special card containing the name of your dedication as it appears in the Book of Life.

By dedicating a light you helped hundreds of families like Diane’s family, who have experienced the care provided to a loved one and their family.

Dave and Diane Light Up A Life for Woodlands Hospice

Diane’s husband Dave was only 32 when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and spent his last days at Woodlands Hospice, where staff supported the family during this difficult time. Sadly Dave died in January 2015.

Diane said: “Woodlands helped us through the most difficult time our family has faced, most importantly caring for Dave, but also helping us as a family understand what was happening and what to expect. There was always someone there when I needed to talk or ask a million questions, and to speak to our daughters when needed. They sat with them and patiently explained in a way they understood. I am so very thankful for this. Also since Dave passed, Woodlands has continued to support my family and I. We have benefitted from group meetings, one to one chats, and even quick phone calls to see how we are doing.”

Since losing Dave, Diane and her family have continued to receive support from Woodlands and she is keen to help the Hospice, so that others can benefit in the future from the same level of care and support she and her family received. Diane and her two daughters were invited to switch on the Christmas tree lights at the Light up a Life service at the Hospice that took place on Sunday 4th December.
