Being part of the Patient, Family & Friends Forum

- by Margaret Nugent, Hospice Volunteer

I joined the Woodlands Patient Family & Friends Forum when it was set up in March 2014 and when my husband was a patient. I have remained a member on a voluntary basis ever since.

Our aim is to give people using Woodlands or having an interest in it, an active role in the planning, development and evaluation of the wonderful services Woodlands provides to patients, their families, friends and carers.

Over the five years since the group was set up we have helped develop:

  • The annual Patient & Family satisfaction survey
  • The Welcome Pack for inpatients
  • Improvements to the Quiet Room
  • Promotion of Dignity & Respect throughout the Hospice

We are a small, but friendly and informal group consisting of a handful of volunteers, staff from Woodlands and on occasions representatives from local community and health organisations.

But we really need new members to join us if we are to continue to make a difference.

Our meetings are held at Woodlands, generally in the afternoon. We only meet 4/5 times a year, for around 2 hours at the most. The meetings are light-hearted, and accompanied by a cuppa and other light refreshments.

So please, if you have time to spare, are interested in Woodlands and would like to join us, come along to our next meeting which is on Tuesday 1 October at 1.30. We’d love to see you and can guarantee a warm welcome.
