Wellbeing & Support Centre update

Our Wellbeing & Support Centre are still here to support you….

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend our Group Therapy sessions from 12th March, and to reduce our face to face contacts with patients to protect those in vulnerable categories. Our team, however, are still here, working hard to be able to support our patients and their families as outlined below.

If you need any support or advice from our team, please contact our Senior Nurses directly, Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm on 07816 219 227.

New Referrals to our Wellbeing & Support Centre or Outpatient Service:

We continue to take referrals from GPs, Consultants and other Healthcare Professionals for new patients who wish to access our support. Referrals are via telephone, 07816 219227 fax (0151 529 2633) or email (wbsc.referrals@nhs.net).

You or your Carer or family member can also refer yourselves to us directly by calling one of our Senior Nurses on 07816 529 227. The referral will be allocated to the most appropriate member of our team, and we will contact you to arrange an initial assessment appointment which will take place as a telephone consultation. During that assessment, if it is felt that you need a face to face appointment, arrangements will be made with you to organise this.

Medical outpatient appointments:

Any appointment with one of our Doctors will still remain in place on the same date and time as you were originally given, but will be conducted as a telephone consultation rather than face to face. If the Doctor speaking to you decides that you need to be seen face to face, they will make arrangements with you for this to happen.

Nurse-Led Follow Up:

Existing patients have been booked onto our nurse-led telephone follow up clinic list, and will be contacted by phone on a day and time and at a frequency that has been agreed between yourself and the Senior Nurse. You may not speak directly to your Key-Worker every time, but the nurse who calls you, will have access to your records and will be able to liaise with your key worker about any issues or concerns.

Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy:

Our team of therapists are able to conduct assessments of most therapy needs over the phone, and agree to a plan of treatment or onward referral with patients and their carers. We are able to provide breathlessness management advice, exercise programmes and fatigue and anxiety management via telephone appointments, supported by information leaflets which we will send out to you by post. We can also order equipment to further support your needs and arrange for this to be delivered to your home.

Complementary Therapists:

Our complementary therapists have been working to contact anyone who has previously been having face to face treatments to offer them a telephone relaxation appointment. We are sending out information about relaxation techniques and exercises, to new and existing patients offering them the opportunity to call us to access our 1 to 1 telephone relaxation sessions. You can also be assessed by one of our therapists over the phone to see if mindfulness sessions or aromatherapy would be suitable for you. If you would like to access any of these services, please contact our admin team on 0151 529 2637.
